Center for synthetic and systematic biology of Tsinghua University is composed of a group of researchers from School of Life SciencesSchool of MedicinesNational Laboratory for Information Science and TechnologyDepartment of Chemical EngineeringDepartment of ChemistryBeijing Tsinghua Chang-Geng hospital topromote the inter-disciplinary collaboration in the field of synthetic and systems biology and to expand the domestic and international impact of Tsinghua University in the field. Many key members are joint faculty in School of Information Science and Technology, School of Medicines and School of Life Sciences.

PIs in CSSB include Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences1), Thousand Talent Program1, 973 Project Chief Scientists4, China National Funds for Distinguished Young Scientists and The Cheung Kong Scholars Program8, Thousand Youth Talents Program8, the Excellent Young Scholars1and The National 100 excellent Doctoral Dissertation1, including two winners of the ten 973 projects in synthetic biology and the only bioinformatics 973 projects. The research areas cover the high-throughput genomics, regulatory network of complex disease, mechanisms of epi-genomics and genetics, chemical biosynthesis and metabolic engineering, genetic networks and their medical applications, gene synthesis and genome assembly, environmental microbiology, metagenomics and other related fields.

In recent five years, the team has already published more than 120 research articles in high-impact journals including Science, Nature, PNAS, Chemical Reviews, Cancer Cell, Angew. Chem. Int. Ed., Biotechnology Advances, Current Opinions of high-level Biotechnology, Metabolic Engineering magazine etc. The team won the first Prizes of The State Scientific and Technological Progress Award and a second place of The National Award for Technological Invention and became one of the best synthetic biology research team in China by taking advantages of combining the synthesis biology and systems biology.
